Aromatic Cedar

Aromatic Cedar, scientifically known as Juniperus virginiana, is a type of softwood tree native to North America. It is commonly referred to as Eastern Red Cedar or Virginia Juniper.

Appearance and Characteristics

Aromatic Cedar wood is recognized for its distinctive reddish to purplish-brown color. It features a fine, even grain pattern that can have slight knots and irregularities. The wood emits a fragrant, sweet aroma, especially when freshly cut. Aromatic Cedar is relatively lightweight, typically weighing around 2.8 pounds (1.27 kilograms) per board foot.

Aromatic Cedar is highly workable and favored by woodworkers. It is easy to cut, shape, and sand, making it suitable for a range of woodworking projects. The wood is known for its natural resistance to decay and insects, which adds to its appeal. It glues and finishes well, allowing for both natural and polished appearances.

Uses in Woodworking
