White Oak

White Oak, scientifically known as Quercus alba, is a hardwood species native to North America. It is highly prized for its light to medium brown color, prominent grain patterns, and outstanding durability in woodworking.

Appearance and Characteristics

White Oak wood typically ranges in color from light tan to medium brown. It is known for its distinctive grain patterns, which can vary from straight grain to more intricate patterns with rays and flecks. White Oak has a fine texture and is moderately heavy, typically weighing around 3.3 to 4.0 pounds per board foot (748 to 907 kilograms per cubic meter).

Workability

White Oak is known for its excellent workability. It is relatively easy to machine, cut, shape, and sand. The wood holds screws and nails well and glues effectively, allowing for a smooth and polished surface. White Oak can be stained to enhance its color or left natural to showcase its attractive grain patterns. Woodworkers appreciate White Oak for its workability and the classic appearance it adds to their projects.
